Paestum Excursion

Pickup will be at your hotel in Ascea for a journey to the city of Paestum, a World Heritage Site since 1988. The trip takes you back to the ancient city of Magna Graecia, founded around 600 BC as Poseidonia, honoring the sea god. It later became known as Paestum after being occupied by the Lucanians and then becoming a Roman colony.

During the visit, we will explore the Doric temples of Hera I, Hera II, and Athena, with the guide explaining their characteristics. Next, we will visit the park's museum, showcasing artifacts from the excavations that reveal this ancient Greek colony. The collection includes vases, weapons, and grave goods from the Greek and Lucanian necropolis.

Among the highlights are the frescoes of the Tomb of the Diver, depicting a man diving into the sea, symbolizing the transition from life to the afterlife. This piece is notable for its artistic significance.

The excursion to Paestum will conclude after four hours, with a return to Ascea and arrival at your hotel scheduled for 7 pm.
