Belfast Linen Neighbourhood
At the scheduled time, we will meet outside Ulster Hall to commence our guided tour. This neighbourhood evolved from a thriving linen industry in the 1800s to a vibrant area in the city centre. The tour will highlight its distinct past and present, passing by iconic sites such as the Grand Opera House and other hidden gems. Our guide will narrate captivating stories from 250 years of history.
You will find out about the location of the largest bell in the city and its temporary silence. Notably, Led Zeppelin performed ‘Stairway to Heaven’ live in Belfast in 1971 for the first time.
The discussion will include the linen industry, significant for the city’s development. You will see the site where linen and other workers bathed before modern homes were built. Presently, the area is a lively hospitality zone, filled with popular venues, pubs, restaurants, and bars.
Belfast also boasts remarkable street art that enhances its buildings. During the tour, we will appreciate the impressive architecture, entertainment venues, bars, and unique shops. After 2 hours, we will conclude the walking tour in Flaxx, a trendy area in the city centre. Until next time!
