Matera Excursion

Early in the morning, pickup will be at your hotel in Palinuro to travel by bus to Matera. This excursion focuses on exploring one of Italy's most fascinating locations.

Upon arrival, a tour of the center of Matera, recognized as one of the world's oldest cities, will commence. It is famous for its dwellings known as the Sassi, designated a World Heritage Site in 1993.

The tour includes visits to the Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso districts. The guide will discuss the living conditions in the 1950s, as well as the transformation of Matera, which became a European Capital of Culture in 2019.

As we walk through the center, notable Baroque temples will be highlighted, including the Matera Cathedral, Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and Church of Santa Chiara.

After a short lunch break, participants may choose to visit famous rock churches, such as the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, Church of San Pietro Barisano, and Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve.

The excursion concludes with the return bus trip to Palinuro.
