Gravina in Puglia Private Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet in Piazza Benedetto XIII to commence a private tour of Gravina in Puglia, located in a crevasse between gorges. The itinerary begins with a visit to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, showcasing a mix of late Romanesque, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Notably, it was destroyed by fire and later by an earthquake.
Next, we'll head to the Church of Purgatorio or Church of Santa Maria del Suffragio, where the façade features two skeletons on the tympanum. The significance of these skeletons will be explained during the tour.
We will then explore the medieval neighborhoods of Fondovico and Piaggio, comprising the city's oldest sections. Our walk through narrow streets leads us to Gravina's rock church and the remarkable Church of San Michele, a pre-Christian temple with Byzantine frescoes.
Finally, we will cross the Viadotto Madonna della Stella, an 18th-century bridge offering panoramic views of the ravine. Remember to bring your camera!
After a two-hour exciting tour, we will conclude the experience.
