Matera Day Trip
We will commence our adventure at a designated meeting point, boarding a comfortable coach that will take us to Matera, regarded as one of Italy's most enchanting cities.
Upon our arrival, we'll disembark and start a guided exploration of Matera's historic center, one of the oldest urban settlements globally. Did you know that the Sassi, the remarkable stone neighborhoods carved into the Murgia Materana, have been populated since the Paleolithic age?
As we stroll through the Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso areas, we will delve into the rich history of this World Heritage City, discussing its transformations from the government-mandated relocations of the 1950s to its current splendor.
Our guided experience will lead us past the city’s most stunning Baroque churches, including the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, Church of Santa Chiara, and the beautiful Matera Cathedral, showcasing Apulian Romanesque architecture. Prepare to be amazed!
Following a brief interlude for lunch on your own, those interested can venture into some of the magnificent rock churches of Matera (entry not included), such as the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve, or the Church of San Pietro Barisano.
As our excursion to Matera concludes, we’ll board the bus for our return journey, wrapping up an exhilarating twelve-hour experience at our original meeting location.
