Matera Day Trip

After meeting at the established point, we'll travel by comfortable bus to Matera, one of Italy's most picturesque cities.

Upon arrival, we'll begin a guided tour of Matera's historic center, one of the oldest in the world. The Sassi, the famous stone districts carved into the Murgia Materana, have been inhabited since the Paleolithic era.

As we walk through Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, we'll explore the city's fascinating corners and discuss its evolution, including the displacements of the '50s by the Italian government to the present day.

During the tour, we'll view notable Baroque temples such as the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, the Church of Santa Chiara, and the Matera Cathedral in Apulian Romanesque style.

After a short break for lunch on your own, those interested can access some magnificent rock churches of Matera (not included), including the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, the Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve, or the Church of San Pietro Barisano.

Following our excursion, we’ll return to the starting point after twelve hours.
