Matera Day Trip
After meeting at the designated point, we will travel by comfortable bus to Matera. Upon arrival, we will begin a guided tour of the historic center, one of the oldest in the world. The Sassi districts, carved into the Murgia Materana, have been inhabited since the Paleolithic era.
We will explore Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, discussing the city's evolution from post-war displacements to its present-day splendor. Along the way, we will see prominent Baroque temples, including the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, the Church of Santa Chiara, and the Matera Cathedral, noted for its Apulian Romanesque style.
After a short break for lunch on your own, interested participants can access some of the rock churches of Matera (not included), such as the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, the Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve, or the Church of San Pietro Barisano.
At the end of our excursion, we will return to the starting point, concluding a twelve-hour day.
