Racalmuto Food Tour & Sciascia House Visit
At your chosen time, we'll meet in Piazza Umberto I to set off on our food tour of Racalmuto, following in the footsteps of Leonardo Sciascia.
As we wander through Racalmuto, we'll observe its main monuments, including the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte, which dates back to 1738. Near this church, we’ll visit the Leonardo Sciascia Museum House to see the writer's furniture and belongings.
Sciascia described his connection with Racalmuto as integral to his work, where he set Le parrocchie di Regalpetra. We’ll arrive at Racalmuto's main street, featuring a bronze statue of Sciascia created by Giuseppe Agnello. We will also learn about the mining history at the circle of sulphur miners and visit the historic Regina Margherita theatre, built between 1870 and 1880.
Next, we'll attend a cooking demonstration on how to make Sicilian nougat, where you will learn through both theory and practice while tasting various nougat products.
We will then visit a resort for a tasting of various types of olive oil, where we’ll learn about local olive trees and oil production techniques. The tour concludes with a light meal featuring cold meats, cheeses, and local products.
After enjoying the delicacies of Racalmuto, we'll finish the guided tour of Sciascia's birthplace.
