Racalmuto Food Tour & Sciascia House Visit
At your chosen time, we'll meet in Piazza Umberto I to start the food tour of Racalmuto, following in the footsteps of Leonardo Sciascia, the town's prominent figure.
As we explore, we'll see significant monuments, including the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte, established in 1738 on the highest hill of the medieval village. Nearby, we'll visit the Leonardo Sciascia Museum House to view the writer’s personal items.
Sciascia linked his works to Racalmuto, emphasizing his connection to the landscape and its people, particularly in Le parrocchie di Regalpetra.
Continuing to Racalmuto's main street, we will see a bronze statue of Sciascia by Giuseppe Agnello and learn about the sulfur and salt mining history before arriving at the historic Regina Margherita theatre, built between 1870 and 1880.
Next, we will attend a cooking demonstration to learn how to make Sicilian nougat and sample various nougat products.
We will also visit a resort for a tasting of different types of olive oil, where we will learn about the local olive trees and oil production techniques. The tour concludes with a light meal featuring cold meats, cheeses, and local specialties.
After tasting Racalmuto's delicacies, we will complete our visit to Sciascia's birthplace.
