Become an archaeologist for a day and discover the impressive constructions and magnificent polychrome paintings at Huacas de Cao: the city of eternal spring.
Brujo & Cao Museum Private Tour
We'll pick you up at your hotel in the morning and head to Brujo, featuring pyramids reflecting the Mochica worldview. The site is located 40 miles north in Magdalena de Cao, where we will stop briefly.
We continue through sugar cane fields to the three famous Mochica huacas: Cao, Partida, and Prieta. Here, we will encounter the impressive constructions and admire the polychrome relief paintings depicting customs of that era.
After a break, we will visit the Cao Museum, housing the remains of the former Mochica governess of Cao. You will learn about her role in challenging the notion of male-only leadership in the culture. The mummy of the lady of Cao exhibits preserved tattoos of snakes and spiders on her hands and ankles.
Among the excavated relics are notable ceramics, depicting wildlife and hunting scenes, textiles, and baskets. A dedicated room will showcase rituals of human sacrifice with representations of prisoners and battles.
After exploring the cultural heritage of the Mochicas, we will return you to your hotel in Trujillo.
