Become an archaeologist for a day and discover the impressive constructions and magnificent polychrome paintings at Huacas de Cao: the city of eternal spring.
Brujo & Cao Museum Private Tour
We will pick you up at your hotel in the morning and head to Brujo, where the magnificent pyramids reflect the Mochica view of the cosmos. Located 40 miles north in Magdalena de Cao, we will make a brief stop there.
Continuing through sugar cane fields, we will reach the site of the three Mochica huacas: Cao, Partida, and Prieta. We will explore the imposing constructions and admire the famous polychrome relief paintings depicting the customs of that era.
Following a short break, we will visit the Cao Museum, where the remains of the former Mochica governess of Cao rest. Here, you will learn about her role in challenging the notion that only men ruled. The mummy of the lady of Cao features preserved tattoos of snakes and spiders on her hands and ankles.
Among the excavated vestiges are notable pieces of ceramic, showcasing wildlife, deer and sea lion hunting, textiles, and baskets. Additionally, we will visit a room dedicated to the rituals of human sacrifice, including representations of prisoners and battles.
After exploring the cultural heritage of the Mochicas, we will return you to your hotel in Trujillo.
